About The Headache Clinic

After experiencing ongoing headaches and migraines following a mild concussion, our founder, Helen Tufui began searching for a treatment that addressed the true cause, not just the symptoms.

Her journey led her to the Watson Headache Institute in Australia, where she trained in a world-leading approach. In 2014, she opened New Zealand’s first dedicated headache clinic in Invercargill.

Since then, the demand for effective, high-quality care has seen us grow rapidly. With clinics now across New Zealand, more people than ever have access to our specialised services and a real path to relief.

Our team shows up every day with one mission, to help people take back control of their lives. We are passionate, driven, and relentlessly focused on results. Whether it’s returning to work, enjoying family time, or simply living without fear of pain, we are here to help our patients do what they once thought impossible.

We stay at the forefront of the latest research, using advanced techniques and tailored treatment plans to deliver real change, fast. Our goal is to get our patients achieving a significant improvement in their symptoms within a few short weeks.

FOUNDER & SENIOR HEADACHE CONSULTANT

Bachelor of Physiotherapy
Certified Watson Headache Practitioner
Speaker at The International Watson Headache Symposium, Milan 2018 and online 2020
Research paper with colleagues from University of South Australia and The Watson Headache Institute - Manual Therapy as a Treatment for Migraine with Aura: A Multi-Site Case Series
Certified Complete Concussion Management Clinician

After sustaining a mild concussion injury, I was plagued with ongoing symptoms. Finding the underlying cause to my own symptoms was life changing. Being able to provide others with this same relief is what sparks my passion for treating headache, migraine and concussion. In 2014, I opened the first Headache clinic of its kind in New Zealand and have worked exclusively in the field of Headache, Migraine and Concussion treatment ever since.

I’ve amassed over 15,000 hours of practical experience in this medical field. Joining with my Australian colleagues, I have co-authored a research paper on the effectiveness of manual therapy on migraine with aura. My dedication, experience and expert knowledge has been acknowledged by national and international speaking invitations.

My key driver is inspiring my team and enabling my patients to take control of their symptoms rather than their condition controlling them.

My passion for treating headache, migraine and concussion is fueled by the dramatic impact these conditions have on my patients lives. My first memory of having a migraine is around age 6. With all the scans showing no clear cause, I spent decades of my life relying on pain medication, as no treatment would provide lasting relief.

What a joy it has been to find a treatment that not only works, but works within just a few sessions! A true game-changer in the world of headaches and migraines. It gives me such pleasure to hear how patients are able to reclaim how they want to live, from one session to the next.

My aim is to educate and empower each patient to manage their own symptoms, so we can all experience the joy that life has to offer.

Growing up with family members and close friends that have suffered with headaches and persistent concussion symptoms, I have seen the way these symptoms can weave their way into all aspects of an individual’s life and how this can affect those around them as well. Working exclusively in this field allows me to focus my skills and knowledge, and importantly, to make a meaningful difference to the lives of my patients. The greatest reward is when my patients are in control of their symptoms.

During my years at university, I felt the impact of migraine and headache first hand; writing off a full day became completely normal and reliance on prescriptions and sleep were the only tools I had considered.

Being able to treat the cause of headaches and migraine and provide long-term relief has been an eye-opening experience.

It is a true passion of mine to treat and empower my patients with a treatment approach that can render them headache and migraine free.

Headaches, migraines and concussion are not just medical conditions; they are profound disruptors of daily life.

Having seen firsthand the impact they can have on my patients' personal and professional lives, I’m driven by a genuine desire to offer relief and restore their quality of life.

  • Louise Clemens

HEADACHE CONSULTANT - Auckland - Grey Lynn

    Bachelor of Physiotherapy
    Postgraduate certificate in Sports Physiotherapy

Being active and socially connected is integral in maintaining well-being. My desire in working with headache, migraine and concussion clients is to minimise the impact that their symptoms have on their ability to participate in their favourite activities.

My professional interest in headaches has grown within my working career as I encountered individuals with long histories of ongoing symptoms. Too often these clients struggled to find effective treatment for their headaches. I strongly believe that nobody's headache should stop them from doing the things they enjoy, if it be;going to work, to the gym, having lunch with friends or knitting.

I find it extremely rewarding treating clients' stubborn headaches and getting them back to doing all the things that fulfil their lives.

Discovering new and effective ways to manage symptoms has been truly transformative—not only for me but for the many individuals I’ve been able to support in achieving a symptom-free life. I love working with people, guiding them through their journey to wellness, and I am especially passionate about education. I firmly believe that when people understand the root causes of their symptoms, they can take control of them and regain a sense of empowerment over their health.
